Marlon Eugene West

Marlon Eugene West was born on January 02, 1959 in Nashville, North Carolina. He was educated in the Nash County public schools.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and a Masters in Library and Information Sciences degree from North Carolina Central University in May 1990 and May 1994 respectively.

Currently employed by Durham Public School Systems, Mr. West is the chorus music teacher at the Southern School of Energy and Sustainability in Durham, North Carolina. He also serves as Minister of Music for the First Baptist Church in Roxboro, North Carolina.

Mr. West was employed by the James E. Shepard Memorial Library at North Carolina Central University as a Reference Librarian from 1987 until 1997.  From 1998 – 1999, he served as a Business Information Consultant with the Dialog Corporation located in Cary, North Carolina. Having served as Minister of Music for the church over the past 30 years, Mr. West has extensive experience in choral directing, church administration, music ministry outreach and fundraising.  

Mr. West’s call to music ministry is to share the gospel in song locally and throughout the world.  A few of his highlights in music ministry include the following:

  • Founded the 100 Men in Black Male Chorus (a nonprofit, community-based male chorus consisting of men of all ages representing more than 30 area churches.  The chorus places a special emphasis on mentoring youth males, community outreach and educational scholarships.  
  • Organized three Sister-cities tours with 100 Men in Black and the Orange Grove Touring Choirs to Durham, England. 
  • Served as Music Director for the Black Nativity Christmas production under the direction of Mr. Wendall Tabb and Xavier Cason.  100 Men in Black was the guest performing chorus.
  • Organized the second international concert tour for 100 Men in Black in June 2018.  The men’s chorus traveled to Montreal, Ottowa, and Quebec, Canada for a 6-day tour from June 28 – July 3.
